Through mixed reality (MR) users can share, understand, and experience the world through a vantage point that’s previously inexperienced. With mixed reality, users can shut out their reality and embrace the digital space.

Securing new technology that provides a path into the virtual world becomes easier each day, like Microsoft and some other companies break ground on the production groundbreaking devices:

Holoportation: Microsoft’s holoportation technology is new 3D capture tech, which involves stitching the results of camera feeds together in real time. The immersive telepresence system combines high-quality 3D models for objects and people. Users are allowed to interact, see, and hear others as if they’re in the same physical space. Whether minutes or hours apart, virtual communication provide comprehensive interactions.

ZapBox: An affordable way to experience mixed reality and room-scale VR using your smartphone through ZapBox. Users can interact with virtual content in the physical world. Users can also share and create uniquely made content.

Bridge: The Occipital-produced is an MR / VR headset that’s optimized for the iPhone. The Bridge efficiently synthesizes data and uses the device’s color camera and IMU to deliver incredibly mixed reality experience. Users can author and deploy mind-bending mixed reality experiences to mobile devices. Developers built software that breaks the barrier between a phone and an individual.

HoloLens: Microsoft HoloLens is a pair of mixed reality smart glasses that utilizes a holographic computer and head-mounted display to provide stunning visuals. According to Microsoft, the tech “is the first self-contained, holographic computer, enabling you to engage with your digital content and interact with holograms in the world around you.” Unfortunately, the price is out of reach for most consumers since it’s priced at $3,000. Steep as it may be, it’s easily considered to be the absolute best MR device on the market.

Lenovo, HP, Acer and ASUS have made commitments to develop PC-tethered headsets that will be affordable to the masses. It’s also been reported that the iPhone 8, set to be released in September of 2017, will be a mixed reality device.
